The Art of Passive Income from Writing

Writers can choose between two distinct approaches to earning income - Active and Passive. Active Income comes from writing something and then selling the rights to a publisher. There is a one time payment and the writer must move on to something else to earn the next paycheck. It is totally wrong to resell work that you have already sold exclusive rights to.

Passive Income involves retaining the ownership rights to your writing and finding ways to earn money over and over from that same work. If you retain the rights, a well written and properly marketed piece will continue to earn with little to no additional work required. That is called passive income.

Creating a inventory of content to earn passive income is like putting money in the bank.

USEFUL STEPS TO EARN INCOME THROUGH WRITING

INSTRUCTION:
   1. Learn to Profit from eHow
Start by submitting articles to an easy site like eHow.com or one of several similar sites. On eHow.com you will earn money based on the quality and popularity of your work. There is light editorial review it is realistic to get paid the first month you submit a few articles. As long as your articles stays on the site, the site will pay you whatever your articles earns each month.

This sounds easy and it is, but there are secrets to maximize your ehow earnings. WriterGig's write a very helpful book that helped me immensely. If fact I quickly earned more then the cost of the book in just the first article I applied the book's principles to. Check the Resources section for a link to WriterGig's helpful resource book.

   2. Next write some articles for Associated Content.
The earnings are not as good, but unlike eHow, Associated Content allows a wide range of formats including product reviews and even poetry. There is some light editorial control but any decent writer can be published.

Associated Content can offer up front payments but they do pay based on page views. If you can find topics that attract a lot of eyeballs then your passive income will start to rise. The more content you provide to Associated Content the higher the rate they pay on page views.

   3. Start writing for Constant Content.
Constant Content is not a place to practice writing because they have strict writing quality guidelines and strong editorial oversight. The benefit is that writers can charge a premium price for premium quality content.

Make passive income in three ways by writing on whatever topic you like at Constant Content. First, offer usage rights so that the author retains the copyright and can sell the articles again for usage rights. Second post articles you already own the rights to and sell them for usage rights to site clients. Third, refer other great writers to the site and earn a little piece of the site's commission on their sales.

To get started see the referral link to Constant Content in Resources (and make lots of money so I can make a little bit for giving you the great idea to write for Constant Content).

   4. Join Xomba and Write Articles
Xomba is also very useful for creating bookmarks to your other content.

   5. Start a Blog.
Start a Blog and create some great content that others will want to read. While the blogging is not passive, once up on the web your posts can continue to earn you ad revenue and affiliate revenue for as long as people are interested in your content.

   6. Write an E-book.
It's time now to write an Ebook and Market it. Again the passive income concept is simple. You write the e-book once but sell it over and over again. Correctly automated with a capture page and an auto ship system (e-junkie is an excellent system-see resources) you will be earning cash while you sleep.
